The first thing you should do in your presentation is talk to them from THEIR point of view. A common mistake I see marketers making (which causes them to return devastated from their presentations) is feeling a need to talk TO their audience instead of WITH the audience.
Until you are able to empathize, and talk to them from their current reality, your audience won’t really see you as someone who UNDERSTANDS THEIR NEEDS…and that can lead to them mentally shutting you off long before you even get going in your presentation.
Get into the minds of your audience. Identify what they are thinking, what are their biggest concerns right now (hint: it’s not buying from you), and what the end goal they are working towards is–then connect your presentation to their current reality…you’ll come across less as a salesman and they will open up more to you.
Another technique you can use to boost your response rate is to simply focus on HELPING your audience achieve their goals–instead of focusing on just trying to PITCH them on whatever marketing solution you are offering.
By providing them value, helping them to improve their business, using quality information–without asking for a single dollar from them–you create a feeling of trust and respect with your audience!
Take the time to actually provide them with useful information, such as how they can improve their website, or what they can do to increase repeat sales by their current clients, and then answer any questions they may have.
Allocating the time to actually help the audience, and sharing some REAL valuable advice with them, will naturally make them more receptive to listening to any additional information you have to share with them…and ultimately trust your recommendation for a solution!
Last, but definitely not least, you need to ensure your presentation gives the audience a clear reason as to why they should take action TODAY and not wait weeks (or even months) to contact you or to respond to your offer.
Your audience WILL be busy, and nowadays we are all in the mindset of “putting things off until later,” which means if you don’t give them a great reason to take action today, you may lose that relationship once you walk out of the room!
Prevent this from happening by providing something as simple as a special bonus that is only available in limited quantities, or you might give a generous discount…but only if they respond within the next 48hrs, etc.
Either way you MUST give them an incentive to take action or they will simply “do it later”–except later won’t happen because they will forget!
Seems a bit TOO simple right?
